About This Album –
An intriguingly different and consistently swinging set, featuring two trumpets in a dazzling display of counterpoint, give-and-take, solos, duets and ensemble work. Don Elliott, one of the most versatile of today’s jazzmen, is featured, with Rusty Dedrick working alongside him. Don, best-known as a vibist, offers much proof that he could be a top-rated trumpet, too. (The seven original tunes and all the intricate arrangements are the work of pianist Dick Hyman.)
Elliott is the only trumpet on When Your Lover; Dedrick is alone on Easy To Remember. As for identifying the two horns; just about all the muted work is Rusty’s; with that clue, you should be able to distinguish between them. Good luck and good listening!
